Distractions as Recovery

Ignoring one's own issues to
become absorbed and obsessed
with others' personal business
is an endless quagmire of
avoidance and distraction,
NOT recovery.

How do we display that we
are able to master difficulties
if ignoring them is our Go-To
method?

What sort of message or image
is implicit in giving our lives
over to someone who can't
handle their own problems,
who likewise encourages us
to teach others to incorporate
deflection as a 'healing' part
of their arsenal for 'staying
well,' too?

That isn't freedom.
That's not progress.
It isn't overcoming addiction.
It's the same old problem in a
new form; ignoring the elephant
in the room by engaging in ego-
centric games and manipulating
others for our own edification.

You can be truly set free...
if you want to be.

Putting down the junk is just
the first step. Getting in touch
with the shit that led to using
in the first place is the hard
work. Pretending it doesn't
exist because it's scary is
just furthering the suffering.

Step up....do the work....push
through...grab clarity and
embrace responsibility.

Keeping secrets kills. Recovery
isn't a place to continue facades.

Weakness is what led us here....

There's so much more to life, so much
more that we as people have to offer,
than simply being 'sick' or 'addicted.'

Getting confined and locked into
the role of being hopeless and powerless
is counter-productive.

Constantly identifying only with a notion
of being addicted and bound to alcohol
or other drugs (or program attendance)
dilutes just how much more there is
to our humanity, our divinity, our identity.

Confusing sobriety with 'morality' is
a slippery slope of muddled message
which serves no one.

There's been enough weakness and
passivity; Now is the time for learning
how to FIGHT.

There's been enough humility and
reflection; Now is the time to take
command and stand your ground.

There's been enough dependence on
other people to prop us up; Now is the
time to discover that we are stronger
than we ever knew....to find the self-
respect of ownership.

We have everything we need within
us. Being diminished no longer has to be
part of our habit. Being told we are 'nothing
special' no longer has a place in our lives.
Living meekly and mildly and swallowing
the natural parts of life is not beneficial
to anyone.

I am strong.
I am powerful.
I am healthy.
I am formidable.

Let no one take that from me.
Let me choose not to give it away.
